Ōvlīan

Ōvlīan, the God of Language & Communication, oversees all forms of communication. His followers maintain that proper understanding between beings represents the highest form of spiritual practice, a philosophy that makes them excellent dinner companions but somewhat exhausting travel partners, as they insist on learning greeting phrases in every local dialect encountered.

The Temple of the Unbroken Word in Bairora, Ōvlīan’s most impressive shrine, houses the largest linguistic library in known lands. During my brief research visit (extended involuntarily when the head librarian discovered my hasty notes contained several grammatical errors she insisted on correcting), I counted texts in forty-seven distinct languages, including several supposedly extinct dialects preserved only in these archives.

Devotees of Ōvlīan should:

  • Learn new phrases in non-native languages
  • Maintain distant correspondence
  • Never leave a message unanswered
