Cervidans

Fauns

My research among the Cervidans began with an embarrassing faux pas; I admired a male’s antlers as “impressive horns,” earning me a lecture on proper terminology. These graceful folk with their deer-like lower bodies, delicate antlers (on males), and large expressive eyes move through forests with such fluidity they seem to blend.

Created by the god Vōldāll, Cervidans have established themselves in mostly woodland, creating settlements that follow natural forest clearings rather than cutting trees. Their dwellings often incorporate living trees, with platforms and walkways connecting family units. The community’s heart typically features a central meadow where they gather for seasonal celebrations that outsiders rarely witness.

Their society functions through seasonal councils where leadership rotates based on needed skills. Hunters lead during autumn preparation, Artisans during winter crafting, Agriculturalists during spring planting. This adaptable governance reflects their deep belief that nature demonstrates perfect timing. Living 120-150 years, Cervidans develop symbiotic partnerships with Sylvans who share their forest protection priorities, maintain cautious trading relationships with Ārdans (whom they view as too hasty in resource extraction), and enjoy cultural exchanges with Lumynans whose appreciation for natural beauty matches their own.
