Ārbyrans
Tree Folk
by
Finley Vorden
These wooden-skinned folk, allegedly crafted by the love of Exphīra herself, range from oak-brown to aspen-white, with leafy hair that changes with the seasons. Don’t comment on autumn balding; they're sensitive about it. Ārbyrans live in symbiotic groves where their elders literally take root for centuries. Their society revolves around growth rings: the more you have, the more authority you wield.
They're remarkably patient, except when faced with fire or axes. Ārbyrans typically live 300-500 years, with elders sometimes reaching 800 years if they choose to root themselves permanently. They maintain close alliances with Sylvans and Kwīsylvans, remain wary of fire-loving Magnithōrans, and show an odd fondness for Tedyrans despite their tendency to scratch their backs against them.
- Folk Talent - Rooted Resilience: When making Endurance rolls to resist environmental hazards (excluding fire), you may count both 5s and 6s as successes.
- Folk Talent - Deep Roots: You may use an action to temporarily root yourself. While rooted, you cannot move but gain +2 to all Endurance rolls and cannot be pushed or knocked down.
- Folk Talent - Forest Communion: You can communicate with plants, gaining limited information about nearby events that have occurred within the 1d4 days. Roll Awareness; each success reveals one significant detail the plants have witnessed.
