Incantations & Spells
by

You must establish a genuine connection with your divine patron before attempting even the simplest incantation. The gods don’t respond to just anyone who happens to memorize their sacred syllables. That would be like expecting a king to grant you land rights simply because you know his name and title.
I learned this lesson the awkward way when, after overhearing a weather spellweaver’s incantation, I attempted to clear a sudden downpour during a particularly unprofitable market day. My perfect mimicry of “Vozju kje'shi!” produced nothing but the horrified expression of the actual weather spellweaver who spotted my blasphemous attempt. She dragged me behind a tent and hissed that I was lucky Rīōnne hadn’t noticed my presumption.
So let me offer some practical advice for those of you still determined to dabble in divine linguistics: start with actual devotion. Pick a patron whose demands won’t upend your lifestyle, establish a genuine relationship through proper devotional practices, and start with the simplest, least potentially catastrophic incantations.
Or you could do what I do: make friends with actual practitioners and stand at a safe distance when they work their wonders.

Rituals & Group Casting
While individual practitioners can achieve remarkable results through Sjōvneva, group rituals amplify divine connections exponentially.
A ritual requires a primary caster (the ritual leader), and at least one supporting caster. All participants roll their Power trait. If the primary caster fails their roll, the ritual fails immediately. Successes on these rolls form a power pool that can be used to either increase a ritual’s range (2 for Close, 4 for Near, 6 for Far), or increase the ritual’s effect.
Failed rituals can have consequences. If the primary caster rolls more than one 1 on their initial roll, all participants gain the Tired Tribulation. Conversely, if the power pool of successes exceeds twice the primary caster’s Power score, they must Endure or gain the Unconscious Tribulation.
